Position Overview
The Head Coach of the Men’s Lacrosse Program at Hampton University is responsible for leading, directing, and administering all aspects of the NCAA Division I men’s lacrosse team. This role requires a dynamic leader who can develop a competitive program within the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA), foster student-athlete growth, and represent Hampton University with integrity and professionalism.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership and vision for all aspects of the men’s lacrosse program, including planning, organizing, and supervising practices, training, and competitions.
- Recruit, develop, and retain qualified student-athletes who are committed to academic and athletic excellence, ensuring compliance with NCAA, CAA, and university regulations.
- Oversee student-athlete academic progress, collaborating with academic support staff to ensure eligibility and timely progress toward graduation.
- Develop and implement effective practice plans, game strategies, and skill development programs to maximize team and individual performance.
- Manage program operations, including budgeting, scheduling, equipment inventory, and travel logistics.
- Supervise and mentor assistant coaches, support staff, and student managers.
- Promote the program through community engagement, alumni relations, fundraising, and media outreach to enhance Hampton University Athletics’ visibility and reputation.
- Ensure a safe, inclusive, and positive environment for all student-athletes, emphasizing sportsmanship, discipline, and personal development.
- Maintain compliance with all NCAA, CAA, and university rules and policies, including timely completion of required documentation and adherence to recruiting guidelines.
- Represent the university at athletic, civic, and professional events, serving as an ambassador for the men’s lacrosse program and Hampton University.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Significant experience in men’s lacrosse coaching at the collegiate level, with a demonstrated record of program development, recruiting, and competitive success; head coaching experience preferred.
- Comprehensive knowledge of NCAA Division I rules, regulations, and compliance requirements.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and mentor student-athletes and staff.
- Proven ability to manage program budgets and fundraising initiatives.
- Commitment to the academic and personal development of student-athletes.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as required.
- Current First Aid, CPR, and AED certification (or ability to obtain prior to employment).
