Job description:
The Head Soccer Coach is responsible for providing leadership, direction, and oversight of a competitive NCAA Division I soccer program. This position oversees all aspects of the program, including student-athlete development, recruiting, coaching, academic success, compliance, and program administration, while fostering a culture of excellence, integrity, and sportsmanship consistent with institutional and conference values.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and conduct effective training sessions and practices.
- Coach student-athletes during competitions and training with an emphasis on skill development, tactical understanding, and physical conditioning.
- Develop and implement game strategies, scouting reports, and opponent analysis.
- Promote leadership, teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship among student-athletes.
- Identify, evaluate, and recruit prospective student-athletes who meet NCAA, conference, and institutional admission standards.
- Maintain a strong recruiting network at the local, regional, national, and international levels.
- Manage official and unofficial visits in compliance with NCAA and CAA regulations.
- Promote and monitor academic progress, retention, and graduation of student-athletes.
- Support student-athlete well-being, leadership development, and personal growth.
- Work collaboratively with academic support services, compliance, sports medicine, and strength & conditioning staff.
- Manage the soccer program’s operating budget, travel arrangements, scheduling, and equipment.
- Supervise and evaluate assistant coaches, graduate assistants, and support staff.
- Maintain accurate records and reports as required by the department and conference.
- Ensure full compliance with NCAA, CAA, and institutional rules and regulations.
- Actively participate in compliance education and monitoring efforts.
- Represent the soccer program and athletics department at campus, conference, and community events.
- Support fundraising, alumni engagement, and promotional initiatives.
- Collaborate with athletics staff to enhance the visibility and reputation of the program.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s degree preferred).
- Minimum of 3–5 years of collegiate or high-level coaching experience (head or assistant)
- Strong knowledge of NCAA Division I and conference rules and regulations.
- Demonstrated success in recruiting and player development.
- Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- CPR/AED and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain).
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior head coaching experience at the NCAA Division I level.
- Experience competing or coaching within the CAA or similar Division I conference
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by practice and competition schedules.
- Ability to travel frequently for recruiting and competition.
