Role Overview
The Sales Representative owns local sales execution for Outward Farms branded eggs across the Columbus/Central Ohio market. This is a hands-on, relationship-first territory role responsible for winning new accounts, growing existing customers, and managing day-to-day ordering/service to effectively “sell out” available production into the right mix of high-quality, profitable accounts.
Success requires strong prospecting discipline, comfort being in stores and kitchens, and operational coordination to protect service levels and customer trust.
Key Responsibilities
- Territory Growth (New Business)
- Prospect and win new accounts across retail, specialty markets, foodservice and distributors in Central Ohio.
- Build and maintain an active pipeline through cold outreach, in-person visits, follow-up cadence, and local networking ensuring strong, long-term relationships.
- Secure distribution, trial orders, and repeat business – prioritizing accounts that fit our brand and margin targets.
- Account Management + Service (Existing Business)
- Own customer relationships end-to-end: onboarding for new accounts, check-ins, issue resolution, and ongoing growth plans.
- Focus on customer retention strategies by providing excellent support and identifying opportunities for upselling additional products or larger orders.
- Support basic merchandising conversations (display, placement, promo communication where applicable).
- Introduce new items and expand mix where it improves customer value and Outward profitability.
- Order Management + Operations Coordination
- Process orders accurately and on time; coordinate closely with operations to ensure smooth fulfillment and OTIF delivery.
- Maintain clear communication on demand signals, volume needs, and service risks.
- Help optimize customer/SKU mix to ensure we sell through production consistently and intelligently.
- Reporting + Sales Discipline
- Develop and maintain clean CRM activity: notes, pipeline, account status, follow-ups.
- Provide weekly updates to leadership on:
- Pipeline health and conversion
- Wins/losses and learnings
- Customer feedback, pricing pressure, and competitive activity
- Volume/mix trends and near-term demand outlook
- Brand Ambassador
- Represent Outward Farms with professionalism and integrity at all times.
- Communicate our values with claim discipline (transparency, animal welfare, responsible farming and sustainability) in a way that earns retailer trust.
What Success Looks Like (90–180 Days)
- A growing base of repeat local (Central Columbus and the greeater Columbus area) customers across diversified channels.
- Clear visibility into demand, pipeline, and account performance through consistent reporting.
- Strong service reputation: customers view Outward Farms as a value-added, responsive, and reliable partner.
- Available Outward Farms volume is consistently sold through into the right accounts, with improving mix and profitability.
- Leadership has clear visibility into demand, account performance, and market opportunities through your updates.
Qualifications
- 3+ years in sales, territory management, business development, or account management (CPG/food and beverage, retail, commodities/ag preferred).
- Strong communication skills and a dynamic, people-oriented personality that is comfortable with cold outreach, face-to-face selling and can confidently represent a consumer brand.
- Proven track record of meeting or exceeding sales goals or activity targets.
- Highly organized and detail-driven (order accuracy, follow-up reliability).
- Ability to implement and management CRM tools (Salesforce, HubSpot, or similar).
- Must be motivated by building something, not just maintaining a book of business.
- Based in the Columbus area with regular local and regional travel; valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Preferred: Experience in animal/food commodities or adjacent categories (eggs, dairy, meat, produce, feed, specialty grocery).
Compensation
- Base salary: approx. $50,000
- Commission/bonus: performance-based; expected OTE ~$70,000–$75,000 at target
- Upside increases as volume and territory scale.
