Employee engagement is a measure of how dedicated and invested employees are in their work and workplace. Highly engaged employees believe their company values their contributions, has their back, and that the work they do makes a difference. Disengaged employees are just the opposite. They don’t think their company cares about them, and they don’t feel like the work they do matters. So, in return, they don’t care about the company or the work they do. And this directly – and massively – impacts your company’s bottom line.
61 million Americans live with a disability. Finding a job can be even more challenging for people who use a wheelchair or cane. Physically disabilities are often treated like a monolith and derogatory terms like ‘‘handicapped’’ are still used. Physically disability representation is lacking in the C-Suite and executive level positions. If you’ve worked in corporate America, you probably haven’t seen many executives with physical disabilities, but physically disabled CEOs are changing the narrative.
New analysis from ADPRI’s quarterly Today at Work report finds that 29 percent of people who received their first promotion left the following month. ADPRI’s model estimate suggests that if a promotion hadn’t been in the mix, only 18 percent might have left.
Today, much is being discussed about how work must change, partially triggered by the pandemic, but also due to other evolving realities such as generational preferences, work life balance concerns and the desire for purpose and diversity. However, little has been done to provide any kind of blueprint to make concrete progress in creating ways to accomplish this objective. While everyone now knows the structure of work must change, it’s a daunting task, and one that requires more than random or knee-jerk reactions. One model may help to shine a light on this challenge.
