Florida A&M – Head Football Coach

ANNOUNCES THE FOLLOWING VACANCY:

HEAD FOOTBALL COACH 

  • This position reports directly to the Vice President/Athletics Director and is responsible for overseeing and leading all aspects of FAMU’s NCAA Division I
    intercollegiate football program. This includes but is not limited to guiding, teaching, instructing, educating, and developing student-athletes to achieve their
    fullest potential. The head coach is also responsible for the recruitment of quality student-athletes, scheduling contests, sport budget management, viable
    fundraising, maintaining good relationships with the community, alumni, and boosters. Additionally, the head coach must have a thorough understanding of and
    accountability to NCAA, conference, University and the State of Florida rules and regulations.
    The head coach will:
    – Oversee and lead all aspects of the football program, including recruiting, guiding, teaching, instructing, educating, and developing student-athletes to achieve
    their fullest potential;
    – Promotes the philosophy and objectives of the intercollegiate athletics program, to include adhering to all departmental policies and procedures, as well as the
    rules and regulations of the University, the conference, the NCAA and the state of Florida;
    – Oversees coaching student-athletes, which includes evaluating their performance in both practice and competition, and providing leadership and instruction in
    areas of deficiencies, as required;
    – Oversees the scouting and recruitment of student-athletes, including on-campus visits of prospective student-athletes;
    – Participates in the collection and analysis of tactical and statistical data of opponents with the goal of designing game plans and strategies;
    – Counsels team members in academic, disciplinary and other matters, to include consulting with the athletics academic staff, the athletics compliance staff,
    and other University administrators to resolve problems as needed;
    -Support and collaborate with athletics administration and support areas, including but not limited to Sports Medicine, Strength and Conditioning, Athletics
    Communications and the Equipment Room;
    – Advises and counsels with student-athletes regarding their obligations to comply with all rules and regulations related to eligibility, compliance, and all other
    department, institutional, conference, and national policies;
    -Be held accountable to NCAA APR standards;
    -Represent the university and athletics department at professional meetings, alumni events, community service functions, booster meetings and other events
    as necessary;
    -Perform job responsibilities in accordance with NCAA Rules and Regulations and Title IX;
    -Provide exemplary customer service to internal (i.e. students, athletics staff, campus personnel, etc.) and external (i.e. alumni, boosters, sponsors, etc.)
    stakeholders;
    – Perform other duties as assigned by the sport administrator and Vice President/Athletics Director.
    Supervisory Relationships:
    -This position has day-to-day supervisory oversight provided by their designated sport administrator and reports administratively and functionally to the Vice
    President/Athletics Director.

    WORKING HOURS:
    Employee is required to work outside of normal business hours (to include nights and weekends) based on team practice and competition

    REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS/OTHER SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS OF LAW:

    This position requires a childcare provider security check as required under Sections 402.305 and 402.3055, Florida Statutes.
    This position is responsible for meeting the requirements of Section 215.422, Florida Statutes, as amended regarding the approval and/or
    processing of vendors’ invoices and/or distribution of warrants to vendors.
    This position requires licensure, certification or other special requirements described below.

     Valid drivers license. Must possess or be able to obtain a CPR certification.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    -Bachelor’s degree
    -College or Professional football coaching experience
    Preferred Qualifications:
    -5+ years of coaching experience
    -NCAA Division I coaching experience
    Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply NCAA and Division rules and regulations;
    Knowledge of coaching methods;
    Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply related federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, rules and regulations;
    Ability to provide leadership and direction in programmatic, budgetary, and operational functions;
    Ability to maintain and improve personal and team effectiveness, and foster change and creativity;
    Knowledge of and the ability to interpret and apply related university policies, procedures, principles, and practices; and
